Rules for live Zoom classes
These apply to both Defensive Driving and DUI / Risk Reduction, and they are the reason most dismissals happen. Worth two minutes before your first session.
Read this before your first live class
These are Georgia DDS requirements, not house preferences. Breaking them means dismissal with no refund and no certificate.
Camera on, face fully visible, the entire class
Dismissal riskYour camera must stay on for the full session, framed so your whole face, both ears, and your shoulders are clearly visible. Long hair and ponytails must be tied back or moved so your ears are never covered — your instructor is required to confirm you are not wearing earbuds or headphones and is not permitted to take your word for it.
Desktop, laptop, or tablet only — no phones
Dismissal riskYou must join from a desktop, laptop, or tablet with a working webcam and microphone. Mobile phones are not permitted: the screen is too small to display the required course material, and the camera cannot hold the framing the state requires for monitoring.
No beds, no vehicles, no lying down
Dismissal riskSitting on a bed, lying down, or attending from inside a vehicle — parked or moving — results in immediate dismissal with no refund. You must be seated upright at a desk or table for the whole class.
A quiet, private, well-lit room
Attend from a quiet room on your own, with enough light on your face for the instructor to see you clearly. Family members, children, pets, television, and background noise are all disruptions the instructor is required to act on.
100% attendance — a 10-minute absence disqualifies you
Dismissal riskState rules require your presence for every minute of the course. Missing more than 10 minutes in total, across the whole class, disqualifies you and you will need to start over and pay again. Log in early and plan your breaks around the scheduled ones.
Reliable internet and a working microphone
Test your connection, camera, and microphone the day before. You will be asked to respond out loud during roll calls and participation checks, and repeated failures to respond are recorded as absence.

Full course detailsCan we do the in-car lessons without the 30-hour class?
Yes. The two are sold separately. Plenty of families complete the 30 hours elsewhere and come to us for the driving hours — and plenty of adults take lessons with no course requirement at all.
Do you do the road test?
No — the road test is administered by Georgia DDS, and you book that appointment with them directly. What we do is get your teen ready for it: the lessons cover every manoeuvre the test includes, and we finish with a full practice run so nothing on the day is a surprise.
Does the 6 hours of instruction replace the 40 supervised hours?
No — those are two separate requirements. The 6 professional hours substitute for the 40 hours of parent-taught training. The 40 hours of supervised driving, including 6 at night, is still required on top and is logged by the parent.
How old does my teen need to be to start?
They need a valid Georgia learner's permit before they can take behind-the-wheel lessons, which means at least 15 years old. The 30-hour Joshua's Law course can be started while they are still working toward the permit.
How long is a lesson, and what does it cost?
Two hours, at $169 a lesson. Two hours is long enough to get somewhere useful — an interstate, a busy junction, a car park to practise parallel parking in — without the student getting tired, which is when the learning stops. Ask about the coupon code when you call; it takes up to 22% off.
Do you also teach the 30-hour Joshua's Law course?
Yes, as a separate course — live on Zoom, currently $99. A Class D license needs both the 30 hours and the in-car training, so most families book them together.
What exactly does Joshua's Law require?
A 30-hour driver education course, plus either 6 hours of professional in-car lessons or 40 hours of parent-taught driving. Those are not the whole picture though: on top of either route, every teen needs 40 hours of supervised driving including 6 at night, and must hold a learner's permit for 1 year and 1 day before applying. Our course is open to teens aged 15 and under 18, so it can be started well before the licence application itself.
How does the Zoom class work?
It is a live class on a schedule. A certified instructor teaches each session, your teen joins on a computer or tablet with the camera on, and the 30 hours are completed across the scheduled sessions. Call for the next start date and the session times. If a fixed class time will not work around sport, school or a job, there is also a state-approved self-paced version through our partner Safe2Drive — both satisfy Joshua's Law.
Does my teen need a learner's permit to start?
Not for the 30-hour course — it can be started at any point, including while they are studying for the permit. The permit is required before any behind-the-wheel lesson.
What if my teen misses a session?
Call us as soon as you know. Because this is a live class rather than something taken alone, the 30 hours have to be completed with an instructor — we will work out how to make up what was missed rather than leaving your teen short of the requirement.
Is there financial help available?
Yes. The Georgia Driver Education Grant Scholarship can cover driver education for eligible Georgia teens aged 15 and under 18 who hold a valid learner's permit. Families apply directly through the state portal — the steps are listed on this page.
Do you also do the behind-the-wheel hours?
Yes, as a separate course. Lessons are one-on-one in a dual-control car, booked in 2-hour sessions, and 6 hours satisfies Georgia's requirement in place of 40 parent-taught hours. Call and we will price the two together.

Full course detailsIs this course approved by Georgia DDS?
Yes. Safe2Drive's course is approved by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and satisfies the 30-hour driver education requirement under Joshua's Law for students aged 15 and under 18.
Does this self-paced course get the insurance discount?
It fully satisfies Joshua's Law for licensing. Insurance is a separate question: some carriers only apply a discount for a live, instructor-led course. If the insurance discount is your main reason for enrolling, ask your insurer first, and look at our live Zoom driver's ed class instead.
Which should my teen take — this or your live Zoom class?
Take the live Zoom class if your teen benefits from a set schedule, wants to ask an instructor questions in the moment, or you are counting on an insurance discount. Take this one if a fixed class time genuinely will not work around sport, school or a job. Both meet Joshua's Law; neither includes the driving hours.
Can we use the Georgia driver education scholarship for it?
State grant scholarships generally apply to contracted live classes rather than self-paced online ones. Call us before you register and we will tell you honestly whether your teen is likely to qualify — it is worth checking, because the grant can cover driver education entirely.
Does this include the behind-the-wheel driving hours?
No. This is the 30-hour classroom-equivalent portion only. Georgia also expects supervised driving hours, and six hours with a certified instructor replaces 40 parent-taught hours — that is our behind-the-wheel lessons, booked separately.
Who do I contact if I have trouble logging in?
Safe2Drive. They run the platform and provide 24/7 support through their portal for logins, quiz resets and anything technical. We cannot see inside your account, so going to them directly is faster.
Do you get paid if I register through your link?
Yes. We are a Safe2Drive affiliate and receive a commission when a student registers through our link. It costs you nothing extra — the price is the same either way — and we are telling you because you should know it before you click.
How many points does this remove?
Up to 7 points from your Georgia driving record. You can use the course for point reduction once every 5 years, so if you have used it recently it will not reduce points again — though it may still satisfy a court order or earn an insurance discount.
Why does this cost $95 when other courses online are $25?
The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) sets a required $95 fee for the official, certified 6-hour Driver Improvement course. Cheaper online courses aren't state-certified and won't be accepted by Georgia courts or the DDS. A super low price is usually a red flag, not a deal.
Can I take it on my phone?
No. You must join from a desktop, laptop, or tablet with a working webcam. Phones cannot display the required material or hold the camera framing the state requires, and students who join by phone are turned away.
Will this dismiss my ticket?
That is the court's decision, not ours. Many Georgia courts accept a Driver Improvement certificate toward dismissal or a reduced fine, but you should confirm with the court handling your citation before enrolling.
How much will my insurance actually drop?
Usually at least 10%, held for around three years, but it varies by insurer and by policy and some do not offer it at all. Call your agent, confirm the discount and how long it lasts, and you will know exactly what the course is worth to you.
What if I have to miss part of the class?
Missing more than 10 minutes in total disqualifies you under state rules, and you would need to retake the full course and pay again. Classes run weekly, so if you know you have a conflict, take the following week's date instead.
Do I get the certificate immediately?
Certificates are issued the same day you complete the course. Tell us if the court has a filing deadline and we will make sure you are on a class that lands before it.
Will Georgia DDS accept a course I take online?
Only if it is live. DDS accepts live virtual classes where you are on camera with a live instructor for the entire 20 hours — which is what we run. Georgia DDS and the courts do not accept certificates from self-paced online DUI or Risk Reduction programs for license reinstatement or court purposes. If a website lets you click through at your own pace with no live instructor, that certificate will be rejected.
What does the $360 cover?
All three required components: the 130-question assessment, the 20-hour intervention class, and the course manual. There is nothing else to pay us afterwards. $360 is the fee Georgia DDS sets for the program, so it is the same at every certified provider in the state — and a program advertised well below it is either not certified or not live, in which case the certificate will not reinstate your license.
Do I also need a Victim Impact Panel?
Quite possibly. Georgia judges frequently order a MADD Victim Impact Panel after a DUI conviction, and it is a completely separate requirement from Risk Reduction — finishing our course does not satisfy it. Risk Reduction is what Georgia DDS needs to reinstate your license; the panel is part of your sentence, ordered by the court. Check your paperwork, and if a panel is ordered, confirm with the court that it accepts the online version before you pay for one. Details and the registration link are on this page.
How long do I have to finish?
You have up to one year from the date of your assessment to complete the course. That said, courts and probation officers usually set their own, much shorter deadline — go by theirs.
What is the assessment?
A 130-question screening tool required by the state that evaluates alcohol and drug use and how it affects your driving. It is one of the two required components of the program, and it comes before the class.
Can I do the 20 hours over separate weeks?
The class runs on a set schedule — Tuesday to Thursday, or Friday to Sunday — and you complete all 20 hours with the same group and the same instructor. A new class starts every week, so call us with your constraints and we will find the one that fits.
What happens if I miss part of a session?
State attendance rules are strict: missing more than 10 minutes in total disqualifies you, and you would have to start the class over and pay again. Log in early and take breaks only when the instructor schedules them.
Is this the same thing as DUI school?
Yes. The DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program is commonly called DUI school, Risk Reduction, or the 20-hour DUI class. They all refer to the same state-mandated program.
Will anyone find out I took this?
Your class is between you, your instructor, and whoever required you to be there. We report to DDS as the state requires and to nobody else.
How much does notarization cost?
Our fee is $5 per notarial act. If your document needs several separate notarial acts, the fee applies to each one — call ahead with the details and we will tell you the total before you come in.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes — the office runs by appointment, so call before you come in. It takes a minute on the phone and guarantees a notary is free when you arrive, instead of a wasted trip. Tell us how many signatures you have and whether you are working to a deadline.
Should I sign the document before I get there?
No. The whole point of notarization is that the notary witnesses your signature. Bring it unsigned — most documents signed in advance have to be redone.
What ID do you accept?
A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID: a driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID. Every person signing needs their own, and we cannot proceed without it.
Can you provide witnesses?
Sometimes, depending on who is in the office and what your document requires. Call ahead if your document needs witnesses in addition to notarization so we can confirm before you make the trip.
Do you notarize documents in other languages?
The notary must be able to communicate directly with you and identify the document type. Call us with the details before coming in and we will tell you honestly whether we can handle it.
